Wax Carving to Metal Studio Access – Half Day

Must have attended one of Abby's prior workshop. Prior skills needed, materials can be bought along or purchased.

  • Location: This intimate workshop will be held at Abby Seymour’s studio – suite 7, 50 Albert Street, Brunswick East, Melbourne.
  • Class size: This workshop is limited to availability in current scheduled workshops where vacancies open up.
  • Bookings: We recommend booking to secure your spot. If workshop dates are affected by circumstances outside our control, we will reschedule and you can redeem your spot in another round.
  • What's included: All tools are provided – all you need to bring is yourself, plus any inspirational images or objects you would like to refer to. Materials must be brought along with you to work on, or alternatively you can purchase limited supplies on the day at an extra cost. All castings involve an extra cost and is priced on the amount used and needed. You will have access to Abby’s showroom display of jewellery and reference books for inspiration as well.
  • Schedule: All studio access will be schedule in a group booking batch or run in scheduled workshops where vacancies are open and will run for the selected duration within the time and date range listed. Each class will break for lunch from 12:30–1pm. Food is not provided, however there is a park across from the studio and cafes in the same street.
  • Completion: At the end of the workshop studio access you will gain further information to continue your jewellery making journey. You will have a better understanding of the process aided by expert advice and tuition in the field.

Wax Carving to Metal - Jewellery Casting

For any skill level. No prior skills, knowledge or materials needed.

  • Location: This intimate workshop will be held over two days at Abby Seymour’s studio – suite 7, 50 Albert Street, Brunswick East, Melbourne.
  • Class size:This workshop is limited to a small number of students with a minimum of four bookings, otherwise it will be rescheduled and a credit note or new date will apply.
  • Bookings: We recommend booking to secure your spot. If workshop dates are affected by circumstances outside our control, we will reschedule. If you have already attended one of the two classes, the second will be rescheduled. If you haven’t done either class yet and can’t attend the new dates, you’ll have the option of a full refund.
  • What's included: All tools and materials are provided – all you need to bring is yourself, plus any inspirational images or objects you would like to refer to. To cast your jewellery, you can choose from silver, gold or brass. Gold involves an extra cost priced on the amount needed, and you can also buy other materials from Abby’s workshop if you choose to. You will have access to Abby’s showroom display of jewellery and reference books for inspiration as well.
  • Schedule: The workshop will be split into two classes. In the first class, you will learn how to work in wax and make your designs for casting. In the second class, you will learn how to work with your chosen metal and refine your special piece of jewellery, ready to take home. Each class will break for lunch from 12:30–1pm. Food is not provided, however there is a park across from the studio and cafes in the same street.
  • Completion: At the end of the workshop, your jewellery will be ready to take home, made to suit and fit you perfectly. You will also receive a comprehensive course guide, full of information to continue your jewellery making journey. You will have a good understanding of the basics and be able to attend any of Abby’s follow-up studio classes, offered only to her previous students.

This workshop is the perfect opportunity to bring your style and vision to life, using the techniques of an experienced artist and jeweller at the pinnacle of her craft. You will get to make your own unique ring, earrings, pendant, bangle or small metal object to take home.

Abby Seymour is known for her illustrative and distinctive carved detail, applied through the lost art of wax casting in metal. This style, which conjures references to ancient Egyptian relics and Art Deco geometry, naturally enables the maker to mark each piece as their own.

Designed for beginner to intermediate level, this workshop will guide you through the wax casting design process from choosing the right tools to selecting and carving the right wax, and filing and polishing your jewellery.

There will be many demonstrations along the way and opportunities for individual tuition, tailored to guide you through the nuances of design. You will also be given an invaluable hand book to reference at home, along with a gridded design pad and wax to continue your designs and of course, your very own piece to wear and treasure.
